Victor Rodriguez, former executive secretary of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., revealed that corruption was the primary reason for his departure from Malacañang.
During a senatorial debate, Rodriguez explained that he could no longer tolerate the corruption he witnessed and disagreed with the direction the administration was taking.
He also shared that certain individuals requested political favors, including appointments to key positions, which he refused due to their lack of qualifications.
Rodriguez resigned from his position on September 17, 2022, amid the controversy surrounding the sugar importation issue, although he was later cleared by the Senate.
Despite the clearance, some minority senators argued that Rodriguez was not entirely blameless in the affair.
