US EMBASSY REQUIRES PUBLIC SOCIAL MEDIA FOR VISA APPLICANTS

The US Embassy in Manila has announced that Filipinos applying for F, M, or J non-immigrant visas must now set their social media accounts to public as part of the visa vetting process.

The new requirement, effective immediately, aims to help establish applicants’ identity and eligibility under US law.

This follows updated guidelines from the US State Department, particularly for foreign students and exchange visitors.

The embassy clarified that public social media profiles are used to screen for security risks and inadmissibility.

Officials emphasized that this measure supports efforts to protect US national security through comprehensive background checks.
