TRANSPORT GROUP ABANDONS P15 FARE INCREASE PLAN

The Stop and Go Coalition, a transport group, has decided against pursuing a petition for a P15 minimum fare increase despite the rise in fuel prices.

Group president Zaldy Ping-Ay announced over the weekend that they will not move forward with plans to raise the minimum fare for traditional jeepneys from P12 to P15 and for modern public utility vehicles (PUVs) from P15 to P18.

Some members reported receiving only P6,500 in fuel subsidies instead of the expected P10,000 for operating modern PUVs.

According to Ping-Ay, operators of jeepneys and modern PUVs should receive subsidies of P6,500 and P10,000, respectively.

The decision comes as operators seek to balance rising operational costs with the financial assistance provided by the government.
