Sen. Risa Hontiveros said she is seriously considering a run for higher office in 2028 and described the current political climate as an informal “primaries” for potential national leaders.
She called on progressive and democratic forces to unite behind a single opposition candidate, stressing that a divided opposition would weaken their chances in the next presidential election.
Hontiveros said she is also monitoring voter preference surveys and is willing to support whichever opposition figure gains strong public support.
Despite her political plans, she said her immediate focus remains on addressing issues and tensions within the Senate.
She added that a final decision on her 2028 plans is expected by the end of the year while she continues provincial visits to engage with grassroots communities.
