According to a survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations, nearly half of Filipino adults, or 46 percent, are optimistic about an improvement in their quality of life in the coming year.
Out of the 1,500 adults surveyed between June 28 and July 1, 44 percent believed their circumstances would remain the same, while 5 percent anticipated a decline.
The net personal optimism score, which is calculated by subtracting the percentage of pessimists from the percentage of optimists, stands at a promising +41, a classification by SWS as excellent. This reflects a 3-point increase from the already high +38 recorded in March.
This boost in optimism is attributed to positive shifts in the Visayas and Luzon regions outside Metro Manila.
Meanwhile, the capital region of Manila maintained a steady score, while Mindanao experienced a decline, as reported by the SWS.
Since April 1984, the survey has posed the question regarding predictions of changes in quality of life 149 times.
Notably, the net optimism score was negative only 11 times. In May 2020, amidst the COVID-19 lockdowns, it hit a historic low of -19.
Since then, it has been on an upward trend, returning to pre-pandemic levels, according to the pollster.
