Speaker Martin G. Romualdez filed his certificate of candidacy for his last term as the representative of Leyte’s first district at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office on Tuesday.
Running under the Lakas-NUCD Party, Romualdez’s district includes Tacloban and several surrounding towns, such as Palo and Tanauan.
The filing was accepted by Comelec Leyte Acting Provincial Supervisor Ma. Goretti Casiñas-Cañas.
Romualdez was accompanied by various local officials, including Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho L. Petilla and members of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines.
His candidacy marks a significant step as he aims to complete his legislative term representing the region.
