South Korea is exploring the possibility of a Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) with the Philippines, according to Ambassador Lee Sang-hwa.
He mentioned that the Korean Defense Ministry has been considering the proposal, though specific details are still under review.
The Philippines’ Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) noted that South Korea has played a significant role in supplying military equipment to enhance the Philippines’ naval capabilities.
DFA spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza highlighted the shared commitment of both nations to democracy and peace in the Pacific region, particularly in the South China Sea.
The Philippines currently has a VFA with the US, which serves as the legal framework for US military presence in the country, and its future was previously threatened but ultimately reaffirmed.
