Businessman and former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson on Monday criticized corruption in government, saying it has reached a level that disrespects the honor and dignity of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Speaking at Club Filipino, Singson claimed military and police personnel are being used to protect political interests while ordinary Filipinos suffer from economic collapse fueled by corrupt officials.
He highlighted rising debt, weak peso, and soaring prices as consequences of mismanagement and urged AFP leaders, including Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., to take a stand against corruption.
Singson also warned that continued silence by uniformed personnel would signal complicity and demeaning treatment, noting that soldiers are being pacified rather than properly supported.
He announced plans to challenge President Marcos Jr. and former Speaker Martin Romualdez to a public debate on corruption.
