Senator Raffy Tulfo urged the Japanese government to open more job opportunities for Filipino nurses and transportation workers during the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
Tulfo met with Japanese delegation leader Fujii Kazuhiro, discussing the welfare of the 50,706 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Japan and praising their treatment.
He highlighted the benefits of hiring Filipino nurses to care for Japan’s aging population and promised to coordinate with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to facilitate their recruitment.
Tulfo also recommended employing Filipino transport workers to address Japan’s manpower shortages in public transit.
Kazuhiro welcomed the proposals, expressing gratitude for the contributions of Filipino workers and offering support for skill development in healthcare.
