SENATOR PUSHES REGIONAL CRACKDOWN ON OFFSHORE GAMBLING CRIMES

Senator Risa Hontiveros has renewed her push for the swift passage of the Anti-POGO Act, which seeks to permanently ban Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) and hold perpetrators of related crimes accountable.

The bill also proposes to repeal tax perks granted under the Duterte administration while empowering the BIR to collect unpaid taxes.

Hontiveros emphasized the transnational nature of POGO-related crimes, noting that scam operations are spreading to nearby countries like Cambodia and Myanmar.

She called on ASEAN and Western nations to form a coordinated response to dismantle scam hubs and protect trafficked workers.

The senator stressed that POGOs are part of a global criminal network and tackling them requires international cooperation.
