Senator Bong Go emphasized the importance of safeguarding marginalized workers, particularly those in rural areas lacking economic opportunities, as he provided assistance to 500 displaced workers in Bacolod City on May 2.
Go distributed shirts and sports balls to the beneficiaries, expressing his commitment to enhancing their welfare through collective effort.
He introduced Senate Bill 420 aimed at creating short-term job opportunities for eligible individuals from underprivileged households in rural regions, complementing the Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP) under the Department of Labor and Employment.
If enacted, REAP would provide temporary employment and livelihood support to economically disadvantaged, impoverished, displaced, or seasonal workers.
Additionally, Go encouraged individuals facing health issues to seek assistance from Malasakit Centers, a program he spearheaded to facilitate access to government medical assistance programs for financially challenged patients, with 164 centers now operational nationwide.
