The Senate Finance Committee will not approve new flood control projects for the next fiscal year until the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completes unfinished works.
Committee chairman JV Ejercito said the policy aims to address existing infrastructure gaps and prevent incomplete projects from worsening flooding.
He said future flood control projects should follow a national master plan focused on the country’s 10 most flood-prone provinces and 18 major river basins.
Ejercito also vowed to prevent last-minute budget insertions and allow civil society groups to participate in budget hearings and bicameral meetings.
He also denied knowledge of a so-called “leadership fund” allegedly being offered to senators.
