Former Pampanga third district congressman Aurelio Gonzales has been indicted before the Sandiganbayan on three counts of graft over ₱612 million worth of flood control projects awarded to a construction firm owned by his family.
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said Gonzales allegedly retained a financial interest in A.D. Gonzales Jr. Construction and Trading Co. Inc. despite claiming to have transferred his shares to his sister.
The projects, awarded by the Department of Public Works and Highways-Central Luzon, involved flood mitigation facilities, flood control structures, dikes, and slope protection works in San Fernando, Bacolor, and Mexico, Pampanga.
The case stemmed from complaints alleging a conflict of interest and structural defects in some flood control projects, including the use of non-compliant construction materials.
Remulla said investigators found evidence suggesting the share transfer was intended to conceal Gonzales’ continuing financial interest in the company.
