Newly installed Senate President Tito Sotto denied Sen. Rodante Marcoleta’s request to include the Discaya couple in the Witness Protection Program.
Marcoleta asked the Department of Justice to protect Curlee and Sarah Discaya, contractors involved in flood control projects, after they named several House lawmakers in their testimonies.
No senators were implicated by the Discayas in their statements.
Sotto emphasized that the Witness Protection Program requirements under Republic Act 6981 must be strictly followed, including that applicants are not the primary offenders.
He also highlighted that restitution is a mandatory condition for protection.
