Senate President Francis Escudero ordered the Senate to take custody of Special Envoy Markus Lacanilao after he failed to justify why he should not be cited in contempt for his evasive testimony during a Senate hearing.
Lacanilao had testified about the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte by the International Criminal Court on April 10.
The Special Envoy had been given a chance to explain his testimony but failed to provide a clear response, leading Escudero to place him under Senate custody for up to two days.
Lacanilao voluntarily presented himself before the Senate to comply with the order.
Escudero also warned Lacanilao to attend future hearings and provide truthful answers.
