Acting Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian’s bloc is set to hold its own Blue Ribbon Committee hearing today into the multibillion-peso flood control scandal, now chaired by Sen. Erwin Tulfo.
The hearing follows a recent leadership shakeup that removed Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano from committee control and resulted in competing inquiries between Senate factions.
Tulfo has invited resource persons, including 18 self-styled “bagmen,” while the Gatchalian bloc said a previous Cayetano-led gathering was unofficial and has no legal standing.
Gatchalian urged witnesses to attend the official hearing if they claim to be telling the truth, while confirming that contractor Curlee Discaya was not among those invited.
Meanwhile, House lawmakers dismissed the rival gathering as an informal meeting and rejected the allegations made by the 18 individuals.
