PAGASA has warned that temperatures in May could soar to 39.8 degrees Celsius, with the heat index possibly reaching 48 to 50 degrees Celsius in late April to early May, potentially causing heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps and exhaustion.
While this year’s dry season is not expected to reach the extreme levels seen last year due to the strong El Niño, the heat index could still become dangerously high.
The hottest temperatures are expected in Northern Luzon, particularly in Cagayan Valley.
PAGASA also clarified that although the dry season is not officially declared yet, the northeast monsoon is still influencing the weather.
In preparation, PAGASA advised the public to avoid strenuous activities during peak heat hours and stay hydrated to prevent heat stress and other heat-related conditions.
