The Supreme Court (SC) is being petitioned to halt the House of Representatives’ quad committee from enforcing a contempt-based arrest order against former presidential spokesman Harry Roque Jr.
His daughter, Bianca Hacintha, filed a writ of amparo, alleging the committee is abusing its legislative powers.
The petition claims the committee’s actions constitute grave abuse of discretion and violate Roque’s rights to due process and against self-incrimination.
Roque has already provided the requested information during the inquiry into an illegal Philippine offshore gaming operator linked to him.
In a related matter, Roque’s wife may face arrest if she fails to attend a forthcoming hearing regarding their ties to the same investigation.
