Vice President Sara Duterte expressed strong confidence in her acquittal in the upcoming impeachment trial, saying her legal team is “more than confident” in their defense.
She dismissed claims that her endorsement of 12 senatorial candidates was politically motivated to influence the Senate, asserting it was prompted by her father’s arrest and detention by the International Criminal Court.
Duterte emphasized that the endorsed candidates aim to continue her father’s vision of a “peaceful and prosperous Philippines,” which she claims is lacking under the current administration.
Critics, however, including Rep. Jude Acidre, have accused her of arrogance and evasiveness regarding public fund accountability, arguing her optimism is premature.
Duterte’s approval ratings have unexpectedly risen despite ongoing criticism and the looming trial.
