House Speaker Martin Romualdez led the groundbreaking ceremony for the P750-million Benjamin Romualdez International Convention Center (BRICC) on February 7.
The facility will be built on a two-hectare site at the former Leyte Park Hotel grounds along Magsaysay Boulevard and named after Speaker Romualdez’s late father, Benjamin Romualdez, a former Leyte governor.
Romualdez emphasized the project’s significance in showcasing Tacloban and Leyte’s culture, while also symbolizing the region’s resilience following the devastation of Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013.
The BRICC, initially designed for 2,200 people, will be revised to accommodate up to 5,000 guests for larger events.
Construction is set to begin immediately, with completion expected within two to three years.
