The South Korean government has donated 2,016 metric tons of rice to support the Philippines’ disaster response efforts, Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez said Friday.
The donation, made amid recent cyclones and the southwest monsoon, reflects the strong and long-standing ties between the two countries.
Of the total, 1,616 tons will go to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, while 400 tons will be allocated to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Romualdez assured that the rice will be properly used to aid flood victims and provide affordable food to vulnerable communities, complementing the Marcos administration’s food security initiatives.
This follows an earlier South Korean donation of 4,000 metric tons of rice to help with relief operations after Tropical Storm Kristine.
