The Chinese embassy denied Philippine Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez’s claim that he raised concerns with Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian about the alleged Chinese hacking of his phone.
The embassy stated that Huang was “surprised” by the accusation and had not met Romualdez in a long time.
Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. urged Congress to amend espionage laws following the arrest of a suspected Chinese spy and two Filipino accomplices.
Teodoro stressed the need for stronger legal measures to address national security threats.
The Department of Foreign Affairs vowed to support ongoing investigations into potential foreign espionage activities.
