Automobile sales in the Philippines rebounded in May with a monthly increase of 18.4 percent, driven mainly by commercial vehicles, although sales remained 1.2 percent lower compared to May 2024.
Commercial vehicle sales grew by 8.8 percent to 31,880 units, while passenger car sales continued to decline, falling 28 percent to 7,895 units.
Year-to-date sales rose 1.7 percent to 190,429 units, with commercial vehicles up 10 percent and passenger cars down 21.4 percent.
Electric vehicle sales surged 139.4 percent in May, reaching 3,611 units, contributing to a growing share of total sales.
Toyota led the market with a 48.13-percent share, followed by Mitsubishi, Nissan, Suzuki, and Ford.
