Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has secured clearance from the Office of the Ombudsman and is now on the shortlist for the Ombudsman position, with his documents submitted to the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).
The clearance came after a kidnapping complaint filed by Senator Imee Marcos was dismissed, clearing a major hurdle for his potential appointment.
The complaint was related to the government’s handover of former President Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court.
However, Remulla still faces other pending cases, including kidnapping and illegal detention charges filed by Sebastian Duterte, and arbitrary detention complaints filed by lawyer Ferdinand Topacio.
As of now, the JBC has yet to confirm receipt of Remulla’s clearance.
