Quezon City 1st District Rep. Juan Carlos Atayde has called on the national government to fund the city’s proposed flood control program, citing the severe impact of floods on residents during heavy rains.
The recent southwest monsoon led to work and class suspensions across the National Capital Region. Atayde emphasized the need for action, highlighting a comprehensive flood control plan developed by University of the Philippines experts.
The plan includes constructing a detention basin and flood interceptors to manage floodwaters and upgrade drainage capacity.
Atayde urged the national government to support the project, which is estimated to cost between P4 to P24 billion, to prevent ongoing disruptions to daily life and productivity.
