House lawmakers and Bicol Saro Rep. Terry Ridon have raised concerns over a potential conflict of interest involving two members of Vice President Sara Duterte’s legal team in her ongoing impeachment proceedings.
Lawyers Michael Poa and Reynold Munsayac, both part of Duterte’s defense panel, previously had direct involvement with confidential funds at the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education.
Ridon warned that their prior roles could require them to testify under oath about transactions currently under scrutiny.
Poa served as DepEd spokesperson while Duterte headed the agency, during which hundreds of millions in confidential funds were disbursed.
Munsayac, who served as Duterte’s spokesperson and DepEd Assistant Secretary for Procurement, is also part of the legal team led by veteran counsel Sigfrid Fortun.
