Several private lawyers have expressed interest in assisting with the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, according to lawmakers.
The lawyers attended a meeting with the House of Representatives impeachment secretariat on Wednesday.
Deputy Majority Leader Paolo Ortega and Manila Rep. Ernesto Dionisio confirmed the attendance of these private legal experts, though they noted that no formal agreements have been made.
Ortega clarified that private lawyers are allowed to participate in impeachment cases, but emphasized that the meeting was informal.
The impeachment of Duterte, initiated on February 5, stems from allegations of misuse of confidential funds and efforts to cover up the spending.
