President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will not intervene in the administrative complaint and preventive suspension against Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, Malacañang said, emphasizing his commitment to the rule of law and due process.
Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro assured that legal mechanisms for redress remain available to Garcia, and that any politically motivated actions must still adhere to the law.
The President stressed that elected officials must be treated fairly and that legal actions affecting their mandate should follow constitutional procedures.
Garcia, a key Marcos ally and mother of Tourism Secretary Cristina Frasco, faces a six-month suspension from the Ombudsman over alleged grave misconduct and violations related to a river desilting permit.
Despite the order, Garcia has refused to step down, pending clarification from the Department of the Interior and Local Government.Source: PhilNews24 | May 4, 2025
