The Office of the Ombudsman has dismissed Porac, Pampanga Mayor Jaime Capil for gross neglect of duty regarding the operation of an illegal Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub, Lucky South 99.
The Ombudsman found Capil guilty of failing to prevent the hub’s operation despite knowing about its illegal activities, including cybercrimes, prostitution, and drug offenses.
Capil was also disqualified from holding any government position, and his retirement benefits were forfeited.
In response, Capil expressed his intent to appeal the decision and continue his re-election bid in the May 12 elections.
The Ombudsman also cleared 10 other individuals, including the vice mayor and several councilors, of administrative charges due to a lack of evidence.
