POE: LTFRB EMPOWERED TO ALLOW MOTORCYCLE TAXIS DESPITE ABSENCE OF LAW

Senator Grace Poe assured that over 60,000 motorcycle riders should not lose their jobs due to the absence of a law regulating motorcycle taxis, as the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has the authority to allow their continued operation.

She emphasized that the LTFRB can request an extension while waiting for the passage of the bill and that the Senate could provide a resolution for legal cover if necessary.

Poe highlighted the importance of motorcycle taxis as a vital mode of transport and a source of employment for many Filipinos.

The senator confirmed that the pilot study for regulated motorcycle taxi operations has been completed and is now used as a basis for strengthening the bill.

She assured both drivers and passengers that services will continue while the legislation is being finalized, noting that there is still enough time for the bill to be passed before the 19th Congress ends.
