The Philippine National Police (PNP) under the leadership of Chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to protecting journalists and media practitioners following the tragic killing of radio anchor Juan Jumalon, also known as Johnny Walker, in Calamba, Misamis Occidental.
In a statement, the PNP emphasized that they will tirelessly work to create an environment where journalists can fulfill their crucial role in society without fear of violence or intimidation.
The PNP aims to establish open lines of communication with media members, providing assistance and addressing their concerns regarding personal safety.
Furthermore, the PNP announced the formation of the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) “Johnny Walker,” responsible for conducting a thorough and swift investigation to expedite the resolution of the case.
The PNP Regional Office 10 has launched intensive manhunt operations to locate and apprehend the suspects involved in this heinous crime.
To aid the investigation, the PNP has released a computerized facial composite of one of the suspects and appeals to the public to come forward with any information that may assist in the immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
