Senator Pia Cayetano has made history by becoming the first female chairperson of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.
Her appointment was confirmed in a plenary session on Monday, as announced by Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri. Cayetano takes over from Senator Francis Tolentino, who had previously chaired the committee.
Honoring a prior agreement with the Senate leadership, Tolentino stepped down from the Blue Ribbon chairmanship and his role as a member of the Commission on Appointments.
The Blue Ribbon Committee is responsible for holding public hearings and investigations on matters of public interest, including issues of corruption and accountability of public officials.
