State seismologists have reported heightened ground swelling and magma pressurization at Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island, raising concerns about a potential eruption.
According to Phivolcs, these changes resemble conditions observed before the volcano’s December eruption and could lead to hazardous events such as pyroclastic density currents (PDCs), ashfall, and lava flows.
Task Force Kanlaon has intensified monitoring and is preparing for potential evacuations in high-risk areas, including Canlaon City, Bago, La Carlota, and nearby towns.
Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3, indicating ongoing magmatic unrest.
Authorities are urging residents in affected areas to stay alert and follow evacuation protocols if necessary.
