Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro and Energy Secretary Sharon Garin met with Iranian Ambassador Yousef Esmaeilzadeh to discuss deepening energy cooperation between the Philippines and Iran.
The talks follow Malacañang’s directive to ensure the safe passage of Philippine-bound ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
Lazaro said the meeting built on the momentum of previous political consultations in November 2025, focusing particularly on energy collaboration.
Tehran has imposed a de facto blockade on the Strait of Hormuz after joint US-Israel military operations, disrupting global energy markets.
In response, President Marcos declared a state of national energy emergency to stabilize fuel supply and address rising prices.
