The Philippines has become Southeast Asia’s top tourism economy, generating nearly US$92 billion and supporting over 11 million jobs, the Department of Tourism (DOT) said Friday.
DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco noted that the country leads the region in tourism GDP, ahead of Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore.
Tourism now accounts for nearly 20 percent of the Philippine economy and supports about 23 percent of total employment, highlighting its role as a key driver of livelihoods and growth.
Frasco credited the sector’s success to efforts in strengthening the tourism value chain, empowering workers, and ensuring benefits reach communities nationwide.
As ASEAN Chair for 2026, the Philippines also pledged to promote regional tourism cooperation and expand quality employment opportunities.
