The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that Philippine-flagged vessels and energy shipments will not be charged tolls to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
This follows reports that Iran had set up a toll system for oil tankers in the strategic waterway.
DFA Secretary Theresa Lazaro secured assurances from Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi for the safe and expeditious passage of Philippine ships and seafarers.
The breakthrough is crucial as the Philippines faces dwindling fuel reserves, prompting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to declare an energy emergency last month.
The Department of Energy has yet to provide details on the expected number of fuel shipments following the arrangement.
