With the heat index reaching dangerous levels in at least 26 areas this week, PhilHealth reminded the public that it provides coverage for summer-related illnesses, including heatstroke, dehydration, and infectious diarrhea.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) warned that heat indices ranging from 42°C to 51°C are expected across many regions, heightening risks of heat-related conditions.
PhilHealth listed benefit packages for these ailments, which can be availed at accredited hospitals nationwide, alongside outpatient emergency care coverage.
The Department of Health urged the public to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun to prevent heatstroke and other serious health effects.
The extreme heat is expected to persist until the end of May, coinciding with the peak of the dry season and summer travel activities.
