The Philippines and Qatar have strengthened their bilateral relations by signing nine new agreements, including deals focusing on climate change mitigation and combating human trafficking.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, oversaw the signing of these agreements at Malacañang. The agreements cover various areas such as visa waivers for diplomatic passport holders, sports cooperation, youth engagement, and technical cooperation on climate change.
Qatar’s Amir, on a two-day state visit to Manila, emphasized the importance of the Philippines as a trade partner and praised the Filipino community’s contributions to Qatar’s development.
The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1981, and Qatar hosts around 270,000 Filipino expatriates, making it one of the top destinations for Filipino migrant workers in the Middle East.
