The Philippine government, under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., has issued a memorandum calling for a comprehensive government approach to combat hunger and ensure food security in the Philippines.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed Memorandum Circular No. 47 on April 19, directing all government agencies and encouraging local government units to support the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) Program.
This initiative, led by the Task Force on Zero Hunger, aims to link community-based organizations with markets and provide credit assistance for food production, processing, and distribution.
A recent survey by the Social Weather Stations revealed a rise in hunger incidence, prompting intensified efforts to address the issue. Measures include strengthening institutional feeding programs, extending credit assistance, providing farm production technologies, and engaging the private sector.
Additionally, Community Participation Procurement will be adopted to involve CBOs, and improvements to irrigation facilities in rural areas are planned.
