Heavy rainfall and flooding caused overall vehicle sales in the Philippines to fall 18 percent year-on-year in August, with CAMPI and TMA reporting 29,611 units sold compared with 36,174 units a year earlier.
Passenger car sales dropped 11 percent to 6,784 units, while commercial vehicle sales declined 20 percent to 22,827 units during the month.
Despite the overall slowdown, electrified vehicle (xEV) sales surged 215 percent to 7,066 units, led by strong growth in plug-in hybrid, battery-electric and hybrid vehicles.
From January to August, total CAMPI-TMA sales decreased 11 percent to 271,336 units, while xEV sales jumped 146 percent to 45,403 units compared with the same period in 2025.
CAMPI remained optimistic about a recovery in the remaining months of the year, saying the August decline appeared to be a short-term disruption while continued xEV growth showed strong market potential.
