The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has enhanced its aerial surveillance capabilities through specialized drone training provided by the Australian government.
Ten PCG officers completed advanced fixed-wing drone training in Melbourne, while 30 personnel underwent a five-day operator course in Laguna.
The programs covered daytime and nighttime operations, maintenance, and operator instruction, enabling personnel to fully utilize their new drones.
This training is part of a broader P110 million Australia-Philippines maritime cooperation initiative, which includes equipment, scholarships, and courses on marine protection and the Law of the Sea.
The collaboration stems from a 2024 Memorandum of Understanding signed during President Marcos Jr.’s visit to Australia, aimed at strengthening maritime security and domain awareness.
