In a video message shared on Tuesday, Marcos congratulated the newly-elected and re-elected officials, emphasizing their crucial role within their communities.
As village officials, they have the responsibility of implementing national policies, providing essential public services, and resolving disputes in their neighborhoods. Marcos sees this as a fresh opportunity to serve the Filipino people and the country with utmost dedication and sincerity.
Marcos acknowledged the significant impact of village polls on shaping the national political landscape, with political parties strategically utilizing barangay posts to establish grassroots power bases.
Millions of Filipinos eagerly participated in the recent village and youth leader elections, which took place for the first time in five years.
Despite isolated incidents of violence in some parts of the country, the Commission on Elections described the overall conduct of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections as “generally peaceful.”
