Actor Patrick Garcia opened up about his 2008 breakup with actress Jennylyn Mercado after nearly 18 years of keeping his side of the story private.
Garcia recalled learning about Mercado’s pregnancy with their son, Alex Jazz, saying he was initially scared but prepared to face the situation and intended to marry her.
He said their relationship later deteriorated after a televised interview in which he answered a hypothetical question about accepting a child even if it were not his.
Garcia said the misunderstanding led to an argument, Mercado stopped responding to his calls, and he later learned that she was dating someone else, prompting him to accept their separation.
He clarified that he did not abandon Mercado during her pregnancy. He said he spoke publicly to address what he described as continued unfair criticism affecting his family and daughter, while Mercado’s team later stated his account.
