Filipino athletes Eric Cray and Janry Ubas have made significant strides in their bids for the Paris Olympics.
Cray, a six-time Southeast Asian Games 400-meter hurdles champion, secured a bronze medal with a season-best time of 49.86 seconds at the Mt. SAC Relays in California.
Ubas, the SEAG long jump gold medalist, also bolstered his Olympic hopes with a 7.58-meter effort at the 84th Singapore Open Athletics meet.
Both athletes are preparing to earn more ranking points at the upcoming ICTSI-Philippine Athletics Championships. Cray aims to improve his current No. 36 ranking and meet the Olympic standard of 48.70 seconds, while Ubas is striving to reach the qualifying standard of 8.27 meters.
Additionally, hurdler John Cabang Tolentino is also a strong contender for the Olympics, standing at No. 31 out of 40 possible qualifiers in the men’s 110m hurdles.
The Philippine Athletics Championships, sanctioned by World Athletics, will feature athletes and teams from various countries, providing an opportunity for local talents and Fil-heritage athletes to compete against foreign participants.
