President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz will headline the opening of the 65th Palarong Pambansa on Saturday at the Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium in Ilocos Norte.
This year’s games will feature 15,675 student-athletes from 17 regions, marking the event’s return to Marcos’ hometown after 57 years.
Diaz will lead the Oath of Coaches and Technical Officials and serve as technical director for weightlifting, while Marcos will officially declare the Games open.
The opening ceremony will showcase a cultural performance titled “Palakasan: Tales of Filipino Strength” and include a parade of athletes and musical numbers by singer Angeline Quinto.
Decorated athletes will lead the symbolic lighting of the Palarong Pambansa light beam from past national and international sporting events.
