The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) is exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to detect gambling addiction and tighten oversight of the online gaming industry.
PAGCOR chairman Alejandro Tengco told lawmakers that AI tools could help flag fake registrations through enhanced electronic know-your-customer (e-KYC) systems and even impose automatic “cooling periods” on accounts showing risky behavior.
These technologies are also expected to prevent minors from registering and allow regulators to track gambling patterns in real time.
Alongside PAGCOR’s push, advocacy group Digital Pinoys launched a reporting feature where the public can flag illegal online gambling activities, including unlicensed platforms and influencer promotions.
Officials said these efforts aim to strengthen consumer protection and curb fraud in the fast-growing online gaming sector.
