P1.4B WORTH OF SMUGGLED VAPES DESTROYED IN BOC OPERATION

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) destroyed 3,174 boxes of smuggled vape products from China worth P1.4 billion, its largest seizure of illegally imported vape devices and pods so far.

The products were crushed and doused with water to prevent them from being recycled or reused.

The shipment arrived in the Philippines in 2024 and was later discovered at a warehouse in Navotas following a tip received by Customs officials in March.

BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said the smuggled goods resulted in an estimated P380 million in lost government revenue.

Authorities are reviewing documents to identify those responsible, including the warehouse owner who may face charges under the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
