Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla announced that around 30 Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) cases are under preliminary investigation over anomalies in flood control projects, with more expected as the probe continues.
The Office of the Ombudsman is prepared to expand staffing to handle the workload and recently partnered with the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) to improve data-sharing and speed up case resolution.
Remulla also raised the possibility of holding former Speaker Martin Romualdez liable for gross inexcusable negligence for appointing Zaldy Co, who allegedly received kickbacks from inserted flood control projects.
A separate task force will investigate projects linked to the Villar family, including the Las Piñas–Bacoor River Drive, while a money trail implicating Senator Francis Escudero is also being examined.
Court cases against those involved and beneficiaries of the anomalous projects are expected to be filed on November 11.
