The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has deputized the National Printing Office (NPO) for the first time to expedite the ballot printing process for the May 12 elections.
Comelec Chairperson George Garcia announced that a formal resolution will be issued to officialize the deputation, allowing NPO personnel to operate under Comelec’s directives.
The move follows the suspension of ballot printing due to temporary restraining orders (TROs) from the Supreme Court, which affected the disqualification decisions of five election aspirants.
Garcia assured that printing would resume by Wednesday, emphasizing the urgency to avoid delays in the election preparation timeline.
In addition, Comelec conducted a trusted build to incorporate changes in the election management system, necessary for generating new ballot templates.
