Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) passengers will not see a fare increase this year, according to MRT-3 General Manager Oscar Bongon.
However, a fare hike may be implemented within the next two years. Meanwhile, the privately operated Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) has filed a petition that could raise fares to as much as ₱60 by April if approved.
The Department of Transportation is evaluating fare hike requests, including that of LRT-1 operator Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), which cites a ₱2.17-billion fare deficit.
Labor groups warn that higher LRT-1 fares will burden low-income workers.
